Quote of the Day

"The players have been dressing in prison garb the last five or six years. All the stuff that goes on, it's like gangster, thuggery stuff. It's time. It's been time to do that."

Lakers head coach Phil Jackson, quoted today in the San Gabriel Valley Tribune

Thats just Jackson being an old jerk. Nobody was saying anything to him when he was acting like a freaking hippie in the late 60's and early 70's.
He should just keep his mouth shut instead of saying players look like thugs.

'f' jackson, 'f' larry brown, and 'f' most of management.
i like stephen jackson's quote and agree with it.
its easy to see that it is old school, traditional white old men making this rule.

Freaking hippies don't steal your car or rob your house - a large percentage of NBA players dress and talk like gang members.

I'm not a fan of the dress code. I don't understand why that's such a big concern for David Stern. Not to mention, it seems to me the code's been put in place for the white, upper class fans. Stern wants to downplay the hip-hop lifestyle to draw the stodgy white people (and their money) to the arenas. This isn't the way to change the NBA's image. As I heard somewhere from someone, if the NBA wants to posit a new reality, it should stop the players from raping women.

In all seriousness, though, the NBA, despite a dress code or any other ridiculous rule Stern enancts, will always represent the hip-hop culture. It's even more pronounced these days with the influx of teenagers into the league. Stern can fight the urban image all he wants, but it won't change a thing.
